Marketing measurement often begins with a debate about models. The more important question comes first: what decision must the organization make differently when the analysis is complete?

Begin with the decision

A measurement system is valuable only when it changes planning, allocation, execution, or learning. Different decisions demand different evidence, time horizons, and levels of precision.

A board-level investment question and a weekly campaign optimization question should not be forced through the same analytical lens.

Use a portfolio of evidence

Attribution, marketing mix modeling, experiments, customer research, and operational funnel metrics each reveal a different part of reality. None is a universal source of truth.

The practical goal is triangulation: combine methods so that their strengths offset one another’s blind spots.

Build the management rhythm around it

Insight becomes impact through operating cadence. Define who reviews the evidence, which decisions it informs, how uncertainty is represented, and when assumptions will be tested again.

The best measurement system is not the most sophisticated one. It is the one the organization trusts enough to use—and disciplined enough to challenge.
